“The Melody of Kulangsu Travels Far”: A Brief Introduction to Xiamen Music School
Founded by Xiamen Municipal Government on Kulangsu Island in 1990, Xiamen Music School provides characteristic nine-year compulsive education and secondary education specialized in music. In 2009, Xiamen Music School adopted a second name Xiamen University Affiliated Music School. In 2013, Xiamen Music school expanded its landscape and founded new campus in Meilun Road, Huli District, therefore, forming the pattern of “One School, Two campuses”.
Since the establishment of Xiamen Music School, we insist focusing on quality-oriented education with unique feature, and keep exploring diversified patterns of running school. Our school has embarked upon a path to success featuring synchronized equal development of musical and acadamic education. Our teachers and students have won thousands of awards in international, national, provincial and municipal music contests. Many of China’s Party and state leaders, including Xi Jinping, Hu Jintao, Jiang Zemin, Zhu Rongji, have visited our school or hosted faculty and student representatives of Xiamen Music School.
Xiamen Music School boasts excellent teaching resources. With Mr. He Lvting (distinguished musician) and Mr. Cai Wanghuai (former chairman of Xiamen People’s Policital Concultive Conference) as our honorary principal, many famous musicians are hired as the Art Advisor of our school, such as Yin Chengzong, Zheng Xiaoying, Hou Runyu, Fu Renchang, Zhou Yubo, Cao Wengong, Zheng Chaoji, Lin Shuzhen. We enroll music talents from all over the world aging from 6 years old to 18 years old. Music Specialized Classes are provided with small-sized education for academic courses. And We provide one-on-one musical performance instructions. There are over 30 musical courses provided: piano, string music, wind music, Chinese music, vocal music, percussion music, music composing, etc. Academic courses are in lines with the requirements of compulsive education and high-school standard. All of the graduates from our secondary school passed the higher school entrances exams and were enrolled by domestic and international universities.
Xiamen Music School has established cooperation connections with Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Conservatory of Music Affiliated School, Chinese Conservatory of Music, and Chinese Society of Wind. We also set up the Xingshi Foundation School in Shishi. Our symphonic band, choir and traditional Chinese orchestra often perform at musical and cultural exchange events for foreign friends and connect bonding with teenagers of Taiwan, becoming a leading player in Xiamen’s elementary and secondary art education.
We seek for perfection and search for beauty in school running. We pass and develop the musical cultures of Kulangsu and play a leading role in music education. We permeate music education into ordinary education to improve students’ musicianship and deepens musical understanding with cultural courses to boost the all-round development of students.
厦门市音乐学校是厦门市人民政府于1990年在鼓浪屿创办的九年义务教育音乐特色学校及中等音乐学校，2009年加挂“厦门大学附属音乐学校”校名。2013年在厦门市湖里区美仑路建设新校区，形成鼓浪屿校区和五通校区，实行“一校两区”办学。
学校坚持素质引领和特色立校，不断探索多元化的办学模式，开创了一条音乐专业与文化教育优质发展的办学之路，师生在国际、国内各类音乐、文化比赛中荣获上千个奖项。党和国家领导人习近平、李克强、江泽民、胡锦涛、朱镕基等先后到校视察或接见学校师生代表。
学校师资力量雄厚，著名音乐家贺绿汀生前是我校名誉校长，原厦门市政协主席蔡望怀为我校名誉校长。殷承宗、郑小瑛、侯润宇、傅人长、周宇博、曹文工、郑朝吉、林淑真等著名音乐家为学校艺术顾问或艺术指导。学校面向国内外及港澳台地区招收有音乐特长的小学、初中、高中、中专学生。音乐专业班文化课实行小班制教学，小学、初中按义务教育课程授课；音乐专业课实行个别化授课，共开设键盘、弦乐、管乐、民乐、声乐、打击乐、作曲等30多门专业；中专文化课按普通高中课程授课，历年高考上线率达百分之百，为国内外艺术院校输送了大批优秀音乐人才。
学校先后与厦门爱乐乐团、上海音乐学院附中和中国音乐学院、中国管乐学会等建立合作共建关系，建立石狮行实基地校。组建的学生乐团具有较高的艺术水准，经常参加省市各级重大演出和对外交流活动，在海峡两岸青少年音乐文化交流中发挥重要作用。成为厦门市中小学艺术教育的窗口学校。
学校在办学上追求“至善至美”，传承和发展鼓浪屿音乐文化，在艺术教育中发挥引领和辐射作用，音乐教育向普通教育渗透，提升学生音乐素养，用文化课拓展音乐的深度，培养学生全面发展。
