Rules & Regulations of the 2018 Kulangsu Piano Competition,
Xiamen, China
General Rules
The Competition will be held in Kulangsu, the famous World Heritage Site in Xiamen, Fujian, China from October 26 to 31, 2018 under the auspices of the Administrative Committee Kulangsu-Wanshishan Scenic and Historic Area and presented by the Xiamen Kulangsu Piano Art Research Association of China and the Xiamen Kulangsu Tourism Management Office. The Organizing Committee of the Competition will manage all procedures of the Competition. The jury for the Competition will consist of renowned musicians from China and abroad. All members of the jury will rate each contestant’s performance with fair and impartial. Decisions made by the jury panel in all rounds of the Competition are final and cannot be appealed against.
The Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities between the age of 17 to 32 (born between October 26, 1986 and October 26, 2001). All outstanding pianists around the world (except those who have a contract with an exclusive agency) are welcome to participate in the Competition. The Competition will consist of four rounds: preliminary, quarter-final, semi-final, and final. In the preliminary round, all contestants have to submit a video for evaluation. A maximum of 24 contestants who have passed the preliminary round will advance to the quarter-final. A maximum of 12 contestants will advance to the semi-final, and a maximum of 6 contestants will advance to the final. The Organizing Committee will be responsible for the recording, videotaping, TV replaying and Internet broadcasting of the performances, prize-winners’ concerts and all other events of the Competition. The copyrights of all audiovisual products will belong to the Organizing Committee, and the contestants will receive no payment.
Application and Participation Procedures
Each contestant shall submit the following materials via e-mail tokulangsupiano@163.com
- Complete the Application Form (see the Appendix; also downloadable from the official website of the Competition, http://www.gly.cn/orhttp://www.glyylq.cn/)
Please submit TWO formats of Application Form: First one is Excel format. And Second one is hard copy with signature, either scan or take a photo, send to the Organizing Committee before June 10, 2018.
- The Application Form shall be accompanied by the following materials:
* one recent half-length photo and one photo of performance (suitable for printing). These photos must be in .jpg formats (minimum resolution 400 dpi). The photographs, which will be used in Kulangsu Piano Competition communications, must be free of copyright restrictions;
* An electronic/scan version of national identity card or passport;
* An electronic version of curriculum vitae.
* One unedited video of a recent performance of complete repertoire.
*The repertoire requirements are as follows:
⑴ Two virtuoso etudes, including one by F. Chopin.
⑵ One prelude and fugue from the Well-tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach.
⑶ One work of the applicant’s choice (up to 10 minutes; use for the quarter-final allowed).
Note: The virtuoso etudes and the Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach could not be included into the repertoire for the Competition. Applicant shall provide the electronic version of the music score of his or her choice.

Note: Applications with unclear information or incomplete supporting materials will not be considered. Application materials will not be returned, and applicants are advised to keep a copy of their submittals. The Organizing Committee will keep all applications in strict confidence and may request applicants to provide additional information.
- Experts recruited by the Organizing Committee will conduct a preliminary screening of the applicants based on the applications received to determine their qualifications for participating in the competition. The applicants will be notified of the results of the preliminary screening by telephone or email before July 26, 2018. The results will also be published on http://www.gly.cn/ and http://www.glyylq.cn/. Applicants who have received a notification of a successful application shall remit the registration fee through following account. Applicants in China remit RMB 500 to RMB Account. Overseas applicants remit USD 80 to USD account. (The registration fee is not refundable.The applicants should pay for bank charges of remittance. )

- The Organizing Committee will send a notification to the applicant to confirm his or her qualification for the Competition within 20 days of receipt of the registration fee.
- Applicants shall arrive in Xiamen, China before the morning of October 25, 2018 and report to the Organizing Committee at the designated place.
- The order of performances will be determined by a drawing of lots on the afternoon of October 25 and will be maintained throughout the entire competition. Contestants shall arrive at the venue of the Competition at the designated time or will be deemed to have withdrawn from the Competition.
- All contestants will perform their repertoire by memory. The contestant will determine the order and repeats of pieces.
8.On the date of competition, all contestants shall submit two photocopy of the music score of their repertoires for the current round of competition.
- Any repertoire change shall be submitted to the Organizing Committee before September 10, 2018. No repertoire change will be allowed during the Competition.
- Contestants’ Travel Expenses, Food and Accommodation:
Contestants are responsible for their own travel expenses. The Organizing Committee will provide food and accommodation after arrival in Kulangsu, Xiamen.
* Food and accommodation for contestants for the two days before the Competition (October 24, 2018) until the end of the Competition (October 31, 2018) will be provided as follows:
Quarter-final Participants: Until the next morning after the quarter-final;
Semi-final Participants: Until the next morning after the semi-final;
Final Participants: Until the next morning after the prizes-presenting ceremony.
* Persons accompanying the contestants will be responsible for their own travel, food, accommodation and transportation expenses. During the Competition, the Organizing Committee may arrange for food and accommodation for such persons but only at hotels designated by the Organizing Committee.

III. Repertoire Requirements
Quarter-final: Contestants will give a recital of up to 25 minutes with a repertoire of their choice. The repertoire may include the work in Item (3) in the repertoire for the preliminary round.
Semi-final: Contestants will give a recital of up to 50 minutes with a repertoire of their choice. The repertoire shall include one complete classical sonata by F. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, or L. van Beethoven.
Note: Works chosen by contestants for the quarter- and semi-finals shall not include the virtuoso etudes or the Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach.
Final: Finalists shall perform one of the following piano concertos with the orchestra:

总 则
本届比赛将于2018年10月26日至10月31日在世界文化遗产地，中国福建厦门鼓浪屿举行，由厦门市鼓浪屿—万石山风景名胜区管理委员会主办，厦门市鼓浪屿钢琴艺术研究会、厦门市鼓浪屿游览区管理处承办，比赛组委会主持全部赛事。比赛评审委员会由国内外知名音乐家组成。评委将公平、公正地为每位选手评分，评审委员会对各轮比赛的评定为本比赛不可改变的最后决定。
参赛者不限国籍，欢迎世界各地优秀选手参加（具有专属经纪公司合约之演奏家除外）。凡年龄在17—32岁之间（1986年10月26日—2001年10月26日出生）的选手，均可报名参加。比赛共分预选赛、复赛、半决赛、决赛四轮进行，预选赛以选送录像视频的形式进行评选。通过预选赛进入复赛人数以不超过24人为限，进入半决赛不超过12人；进入决赛人数不超过6人。比赛组委会全权负责组织比赛期间的录音、录像、电视转播、网络传播、获奖选手音乐会以及其它相关活动。所有音像制品的版权属于比赛组委会，不向选手另付报酬。
一、报名及参赛有关事项
每位参赛者必须通过发送电子邮件提交以下资料至邮箱kulangsupiano@163.com：
- 填写报名表（报名表附后，可从http://www.gly.cn/或http://www.glyylq.cn/下载），填写后需提交一份excel报名表及一份打印签名确认后的报名表（拍照或扫描），于2018年6月10日前向比赛组委会报名。
- 随同报名表需附以下材料：
* 近期电子版半身照片1张，演出照片1张（适合印刷用）。这些照片必需是.jpg格式（最少400像素）。相片请授权给主办单位公关使用。
* 本人身份证或护照电子版或扫描件。
* 本人电子版简历一份。
* 本人近期演奏的完整曲目录像视频(未被编辑过)。
* 曲目要求如下：
⑴技巧性练习曲两首，其中一首为肖邦练习曲。
⑵巴赫：《十二平均律》前奏曲与赋格一套。
⑶自选乐曲一首（10分钟为限，可于复赛中使用）。
(注)技巧性练习曲与巴赫平均律两项作品，不得再列为入围比赛的曲目，另报名者须提供自选乐曲一首之乐谱电子版。

3.比赛组委会组织专家根据报名材料进行预选赛，以确定报名者的参赛资格，并将结果于2018年7月26日前以联络电话和电子邮件方式通知报名者，并同时将在http://www.gly.cn/和http://www.glyylq.cn/进行网上公布。报名者接到比赛组委会确认参赛资格的通知后，应于2018年8月26日前（以汇款日期为准），汇款至如下相应账户。境内报名者汇款500元人民币报名费至人民币账户，境外报名者汇款80美金报名费至美元账户。报名费不退还并请自付银行汇款手续费。

- 比赛组委会收到报名费后，将于20天内通知参赛者，确认其参赛资格。
5.参赛者本人应于2018年10月25日上午前抵达中国厦门在比赛组委会指定地点报到。
6.参赛者出场顺序在10月25日下午由抽签方式决定，抽出的顺序贯穿整个赛程。参赛者必须在指定时间内到达比赛场地，否则视为自动放弃参赛资格。
7.比赛一律背谱演奏。演奏曲目的顺序和乐曲中的反复由选手自行决定。
8.参赛者比赛当天须缴交两份该轮比赛曲目乐谱之复印本。
9.参赛者的曲目如有更改，必须在2018年9月10日前向比赛组委会申报。比赛期间不得临时更改曲目。
10.对参赛者的旅费及食宿规定如下：
旅费自理，落地食宿由比赛组委会负责接待。
*参赛选手在比赛前两天（2018年10月24日）起至比赛结束（2018年10月31日）的食宿安排按下列规定：
参加复赛者:至复赛结束后翌日上午；
参加半决赛者：至半决赛结束后翌日上午；
参加决赛者：至颁奖典礼结束翌日上午。
*参赛选手陪同者的旅费、食宿及交通费等一律自理，比赛期间的食宿可委托比赛组委会代为安排，但仅限于比赛组委会指定的饭店或旅馆。

三、比赛曲目
复 赛:进入本轮的选手必须演奏至多25分钟的钢琴独奏会，曲目自选，可含预选赛之(3)自选曲目。
半决赛：进入本轮的选手必须演奏至多50分钟的钢琴独奏会。曲目自选。本轮比赛的曲目必须包括下列作曲家（海顿、莫扎特、贝多芬）的一首完整奏鸣曲。
(注) 复赛、半决赛之自选曲目，不得再弹奏技巧性练习曲与巴赫平均律两项作品。
